Yes, there are a wide variety of lipstick shades available in any Cosmo corner. But ever wondered, which shades would look good on you rather than just the catalog?
This article discusses about lipsticks, their types, brands and which one's best for you.
For picking the perfect lipstick, you first need to decide the kind of shape you want your lips in. Wearing darker lipsticks like Shades of Red, Ruby Woo, Deep Orange, Burgundy Wine, Maroon, Crimson, Purple, Old hollywood, make your lips look thinner. Matte lipstick work well to give your lips the Perfect shape and a beautiful thin line. If you're looking for bigger lip appearance, brighter shades must be your choice. Shades like Light Orange, Perfect Pink, Rimmel, Soft coral, Sweet Nectar, Anna Nicole, Chatterbox. Glossy lipsticks help your lips bulge out a bit. Use Pencil Lip Liner for out lining your lips for a cleaner look. I prefer outlining only when using matte.
Next comes your skin tone. You must make sure the lipstick you wear compliments you and your skin. If you're dark skin toned, shades like Cyber, Diva, Viva Glam I, Coffee Colour must be your choice. Using Bright pinks and oranges will give you contrast and unnatural look. For a natural and nude look, opt for Cocoa and Chocolate shades.
Medium skin toned girls are most likely to look good in off shades. Dull red, Maroon, Diva, Saffron, Matte purple, are obvious choices. For a natural look, your lips must wear shades like Honeylove, Snob, Pink Ploid, Creme Cup.
Almost all lipsticks go with a fair skin tone. Wide range of lipsticks are available for a fair skin toned girl. Wearing shades like Blood Red and Cyber can give a hot look. Dull red and maroons can give a classy, bold look. Myth, Baby pink, Angel are shades which can give you a natural look.
If you're fair skin toned, but with dark lips, choose Cocoa, Diva etc for your lips.
Your dress apart from your skin tone, is an important factor to choose yourself a lipstick. Never go mismatch (obviously not like wearing purple lipstick with a gross green dress) and please DO NOT WEAR RED LIPSTICK ON A PINK DRESS!! You don't want to look like you ran outta your pink lipstick the last moment (will upload an article on DIY lipstick for last moment soon) Almost all lip colours go with a black dress. Cyber, Bright purple, Hot red and also the nude shades will match your black little dress but maintaining your fashion is to always be kept in mind.
Do not contrast your nailpaint with your lipstick. Always keep their colour the same.
Choosing the texture of lipsticks is as conscious as the shade. Pouting is definitely every girl's at least once-in-a-lifetime thing (and regular for me). Brands like Elle18 and Lakme offer specially designed lipsticks for lip pout. Thick lip gloss helps too.
For a sculptured and sharp look, opt for Matte lipsticks. I like the ones from MAC, Revlon and Nykaa. Maybelline too has shades in matte but I don't prefer them much.
Lip glosses must be chosen for a glossy look.
Opt for Crème for a creamy, smooth texture. Almost all lipstick brand provide lipstick with this texture.
Always use good quality lipsticks in order to not harm or darken your lips. I recommend Oriflame, Revlon and Nykaa.
Hope this was helpful.
Until next time, Nikita
